Sophomore forward Brandon Brekke (East Grand Forks, Minn.), whose father, uncle and aunt all played in the rivalry at UND, led all players with 17 points to carry his team to a 59-54 victory. The game was the first between the two rivals in Grand Forks in eight years, and drew 7,169 vociferous fans to Ralph Engelstad Arena.It is an excellent win for the program, and one that will be savored by the players and fans alike.

ReplyDeleteI was at the game! What a night! About 500 UND students stormed the court after the final buzzer and danced with the players. I sat on my hands the entire game, as it was itense basketball from start to finish, and I was surrounded by obnoxious, arrogant NDSU faithfuls, who never broached the subject that they might lose until 1 minutes was left in the game. What a release of exuberance I had at the end, but the NDSU fans were no where to be found at that point. They were long gone back down from whence they came.
