Both returning guards were first team all-league selections last season, although Cherry, who led the Griz in scoring (15.8 ppg) as a junior, recently suffered an injury and is expected to be out six to eight weeks.Cherry is the best defensive player in the conference (and one of the best defensive guards in the country), and the odds on favorite for Big Sky POY. I will try to find out more information about the injury and pass it on.
Hopefully he has a speedy and full recovery.
UPDATE: Got this tweeted to me from Shaun Rainey, a sports reporter in Missoula.
